Undersecretary Ponciano C. Manalo, Jr. of the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry Trade and Investment Promotions Group, visited Singapore in February, 2014 to promote business opportunities in the Philippines. He attended the Singapore Air Show to meet with aerospace companies to promote Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) services and auto parts manufacturing.
At present, the country is host to several MRO facilities including Lufthansa Technik in Ninoy Aquino International Airport which services among others, Airbus A380s operating out of the Philippines. The Singapore Airlines-owned SIA Engineering (Philippines) Corp in Clark offers a suite of capabilities including aircraft certification and scheduled heavy maintenance checks, airframe structural inspections, repairs, modifications, paint-stripping, painting of aircraft exteriors and Non-Destructive Testing checks.
Undersecretary Manalo also met with International Enterprise (IE) Singapore, the Singapore Business Federation (SBF) and with key Singaporean, Japanese and American corporations to discuss investment opportunities in manufacturing, BPO, IT services, tourism and agribusiness in the Philippines.
Singapore as a strategic business partner is part of the Philippine growth story. The Lion City is, in fact, one of the Philippines’ most vital trading partners, ranking as the fourth largest export market and fifth largest source of investments.
