DTI Assistant Secretary Ceferino S. Rodolfo delivers the keynote speech during the opening of the 22nd APEC Automotive Dialogue (AD) at the Dusit Thani Hotel, Makati City on April 22, 2015. He underscored the crucial role that Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) plays in the development of the automotive sector of the region. He expressed confidence that the economies would agree on the template for the Electric Vehicle (EV) Roadmap and to have an actionable agenda on empowering SMEs to penetrate the supply chains networks of automotive brand principals around the region. Specifically, for this year’s agenda include Global Value Chain (GVC) -SME for the Automotive Sector (GSAS) and the development of standards and market regulation framework. DTI Asec. Rodolfo stressed that SMEs are considered the engines of growth and innovation in the APEC region accounting for 97% of all enterprises and about half of the total workforce. With this year’s theme “Integrating SMEs into the Automotive Global Value Chains,” he expressed optimism that constructive dialogues and collective efforts will pave the way for inclusive and sustainable growth in the region.
