Mr. Rick Helfenbein (third from left), chairman of the executive board of the American Apparel and Footwear Association paid a courtesy call yesterday (September 10, 2015) to Department of Trade & Industry (DTI) Secretary Gregory Domingo (second from left). Helfenbein shared with Secretary Domingo during the courtesy call, his association’s initiatives on the United States’ Generalized System of Preferences (US GSP) which provides duty-free access to eligible products from GSP beneficiary countries including the Philippines. He also discussed with Secretary Domingo ways to maximize the benefits of the US GSP scheme and DTI’s intervention on the possibility to include certain products of interest to the Philippines (e.g., travel goods and leather goods) in the list of GSP eligible products. Secretary Domingo expressed full support to this initiative saying this will definitely be a big boost to the local industry.
