The Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Tokyo and the ASEAN Japan Centre partnered to organize a Philippine Investment Environment Study Outbound Mission on 4-7 March 2014.
The mission was composed of 13 representatives of small and medium enterprises from the manufacturing, agriculture, and financial services sectors. More than half of the delegates were first-time visitors to the Philippines.
The itinerary of the Japanese SMEs included a briefing at the Board of Investments led by DTI Undersecretary Ponciano C. Manalo, Jr.; a presentation by PEZA Director General Lilia de Lima; and a meeting with JETRO Manila. The group also visited three PEZA industrial parks namely, the Laguna Technopark, the Lima Technology Center and the First Philippine Industrial Park, where the companies met with administrators of each of the PEZA zones and some of the Japanese company locators.
The group also had the chance to interface with top-level government officials, and high-ranking Japanese and Filipino business representatives when they attended the PhilJECC-JPECC Annual Joint Meeting Philippine Seminar at the Solaire in Manila.
Serious leads resulting from the mission included concrete plans to set up factories for the following: 1) design, production and sale of rubber rollers, 2) polystyrene foam products, and 3) precision tools for semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
