Twelve (12 ) Philippine companies participated in the Philippine Outbound Business Mission (OBM) to the Middle East from October 26 to November 7, 2013 to explore market opportunities for Philippine food, cosmetics and wellness products. PTIC Dubai led the OBM, in coordination with the Export Marketing Bureau and assisted by the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait, KSA and Qatar.

During their visit to Kuwait last October 28-30, 2013, the business delegation conducted back-to-back meetings/business matching with about 40 Kuwaiti importers, distributors and retailers at the Costa Del Sol Hotel where samples of Philippine products were on display for the duration of the mission. Philippine Embassy in Kuwait Charge d’ Affaires Lamberto V. Monsanto, who joined the OBM participants at the Costa del Sol Hotel on October 29th gave the Philippine delegation some insights on the nature and peculiarities of the Middle East market and on how to penetrate the Kuwaiti market and make their products competitive in the region.

The visiting business delegation also conducted market sensing at various supermarkets and stores selling Philippine products in Kuwait on October 30. The group was welcomed by the General and Store Managers of Lulu Hypermarket, Ambassador Supermarket and Philippine Beauty in separate visits. A courtesy call was made by the Philippine delegation led by Philippine Embassy Charge d’ Affaires Monsanto, Ms. Imelda Madarang of Fisher Farms and CC Paisal Abdullah to Mr. Hamad J. Al-Omar, Deputy Director General of the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce. During the call, the Kuwait Chamber was appraised of the Philippines’ robust economic growth attributed to the political and economic reforms being pursued by the government to ensure sustained economic growth Mr. Al-Omar acknowledged the Philippines’ strong economic prospects and urged for the Philippines to aggressively promote the country and its products in the region.

On the whole, the OBM participants were encouraged by the positive outcome of their meetings with Kuwaiti businessmen, as sales deals (booked and under negotiation) amounting to US$10.59 million were concluded with them during the matching sessions. For the entire Business Mission including KSA and Doha, the delegation successfully garnered total sales of US$60.69 million.
