Ambassador Manuel M. Lopez received Dr. George SK Ty, founder and Chairman of Metrobank at the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo on 16 April 2014. Also present during the call were the Second Secretary and Consul Hans Siriban, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) Vice Chairman, Mr. Alfred Ty, Commercial Counselor Dita Angara-Mathay and Commercial Attache Froilan Pamintuan.
Metrobank, the second largest bank in the Philippines in terms of assets currently has branches in Tokyo and in Osaka. Metrobank is also partnered with Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) in the Philippines.
Toyota Motors Philippines (TMP) is the largest automotive company in the Philippines today with more than 40% of the domestic market. TMP is aiming to elevate the capabilities and status of the Filipino technical workforce through its School of Technology which began operation in September 2013. The world-class school in the Toyota facility in Santa Rosa, Laguna aims to eventually be the training base for the needs of “Global Toyota.” Dr. Ty also cited the anticipated surge in the demand for vehicles among Filipinos, especially with the expected motorization phase in the country as its per capita income reaches the USD3000 level. The Metrobank Group of Companies, through Federal Land, Incorporated, is also working with Orix Corporation, a Japanese real estate entity, for the construction of the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Taguig.
