Korean Ambassador Courtesy Call to the DTI Chief. Newly-appointed Korean Ambassador to the Philippines Jae-Shin Kim (third from left) paid a courtesy call yesterday (September 10, 2015) to Department of Trade & Industry (DTI) Secretary Gregory Domingo (second from left). The courtesy call was the first official introduction between the two government officials since Ambassador Kim assumed his position in June 2015. During the courtesy call, Secretary Domingo highlighted the Philippines’ growing bilateral trade relations with Korea, noting the latter ranked as the country’s 5th major trading partner in 2014, 7th export market, and 4th import supplier. Secretary Domingo also mentioned to Ambassador Kim that the Philippine government is looking forward to the convening of the Philippines-Korea Joint Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation (JCTEC). “While there are ample opportunities to strengthen the economic relations between the two countries through the ASEAN-Korea Free Trade Agreement, both sides should continue to find ways to deepen its bilateral trade and economic ties through the convening of the JCTEC,” the Trade Secretary said. Joining the two government officials in the courtesy call were Ms. Maria Roseni Alvero (left), DTI Assistant Secretary and currently the Coordinating Officer of DTI’s Foreign Trade Service Corps; and Dong Han Yang (right), Korean Minister-Counsellor.
