On June 2013, H.E. Secretary Gregory L. Domingo of the Department of Trade and Industry and Swiss State Secretary for Economic Affairs Marie-Gabrielle Ineichen-Fleisch signed a memorandum of understanding to create a Joint Economic Commission between Philippines and Switzerland.
The JEC will serve as a mechanism for regular exchanges between the two countries, including the private sector. Major exports of the Philippines to Switzerland are electrical machines, mineral compounds, medical instruments, textiles and apparel and other machinery. Imported goods from Switzerland include pharmaceuticals, watches, agricultural products like cheese and chocolate and non-electric machines. Swiss companies have signified interest in investing in the Philippines, particularly in infrastructure projects and in the financial sector. The first meeting is scheduled to be held on July 2014.
