The Department of Trade & Industry (DTI), and the Board of Investments (BOI) recently consulted with the local automotive cluster on their industry development roadmap. At the 11th Trade and Industry Development (TID) Updates, the forum focused on human resource development programs to further enhance the competitiveness of the local automotive cluster. “The automotive manufacturing industry is one of the major drivers of the country's industry sector, generating about a quarter of a trillion pesos in sales last year. The Auto Industry Roadmap targets 300,000 quality jobs by 2022. DTI Undersecretary Adrian Cristobal Jr. (right) in his opening remarks also said that “it is equally important to also put into perspective the technology that the industry will stand to gain throughout the life of the roadmap and beyond." Providing updates on human resource innovations, initiatives, and industry prospects during the forum were: Mr. Arthur Tan (second from left), President and CEO of the Integrated Microelectronics, Inc.; Executive Director Ramon Kabigting of the Philippine Automotive Competitiveness Council; and DTI Assistant Secretary Rafaelita Aldaba. Meanwhile, guest reactors including Mr. Henry Co, President of the First Philippine Industrial Park, Dr. Ramon Clarete, Dean of UP-School of Economic and Dr. Erlinda Medalla from the Philippine Institute for Development Studies, also shared their insights on the subject matter.
