The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Board of Investments (BOI) hosts the second of a series of Trade and Industry Development (TID) Updates on Thursday, 26 September. The event will feature the roadmaps of the Rubber and Paper industries.
TID Updates gather foreign and local chambers, embassies, industry associations, development institutions, the academe, media and other key players from the public and private sectors in the discussion of industry roadmaps to build and enhance the competitiveness of Philippine industries.
The Rubber industry roadmap aims to propel its products to become key contributors to the country’s economic development. For the long-term, the sector targets to upgrade manufacturing skills and technical and market standards to boost its links with local and export markets. Industry data shows that the rubber industry produced 442,990 metric tons of rubber in 2012 and that the rubber industry contributed Php 3.358 billion to the gross domestic product (GDP) in the same year.
The Paper industry roadmap envisions serving all major pulp and papering requirements of the country as well as developing high-value and quality pulp and paper products in the long-term. The Paper industry roadmap outlines plans to be internationally competitive and environmentally-sustainable.
The DTI and BOI launched the Industry Development Program (IDP) last year to support the Philippine Development Plan’s mandate for the formulation of a Comprehensive National Industrial Strategy (CNIS). The crafting of industry roadmaps are private-sector led, in collaboration with government, academe and civil society. The project aims to chart the direction, goals and strategies for key industries and form the basis for the development of the CNIS.
