Manalo, Jr. (left) together with (from right) Bureau of Domestic Trade Promotion (BDTP) Director Rhodora M. Leaño, DTI Undersecretary for Consumer Protection Group Victorio Mario A. Dimagiba and Dimagiba’s wife Cecila, hold Guimaras mangoes displayed and sold by Fresco Fresh Mango at the National Food Fair at the Megatrade Halls 1 to 3, SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City. Guimaras mango is one of the Philippines’ specialized products being evaluated for a geographical indication (GI) seal. Manalo said that the DTI is supportive of the advancement of the GI scheme as a branding exercise for products based on their geographical origin. The scheme aims to build the quality, reputation and other characteristics of the product that will make them more competitive in the local and global markets. DTI is confident that with the GI scheme, Philippine products can further expand its exports in the European market especially with European Union’s (EU) recent grant of new Generalized Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP +) status to the country. Fresco Fresh Mango is one of the 150 exhibitors participating in the food fair, which took place last March 25 to 29, 2015. (DTI-PRU)
