The Board of Investments (BOI) will hold a forum on the Investment Priorities Plan (IPP) 2014 - 2016 on 11 September at the Smallville 21 Hotel, Iloilo City. BOI Director Angelica M. Cayas will present “IPP and its Implementing Guidelines”. Iloilo Governor Arthur D. Defensor Sr. will deliver the Keynote Message.
The IPP is a fundamental investment policy tool for industry development, aimed to build industries through policy interventions and initiatives. The Plan is focused on the theme “Industry Development for Inclusive Growth”.
The crafting of the IPP harnessed the vast experience and support of stakeholders, particularly the private sector. The sector played a critical role in the preparation of the IPP and in formulating policies to provide clear directions for industry development and growth.
The IPP is a rolling three-year plan to ensure continuity, consistency and predictability as a measure to improve business environment for domestic and foreign investors. This new IPP will be reviewed annually over the three-year period.
This year’s IPP introduced innovative features such as the principle of geographical application. This principle takes into consideration the impact of an economic activity in a particular region, province, or a cluster of local government units, such as in the generation of decent and quality jobs for the targeted locality. It also promotes Inclusive Business (IB), Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Good Corporate Governance as tools for development.
The following are the preferred lists of activities: Manufacturing, Agribusiness and Fishery, Services, Economic and Low-cost Housing, Hospitals, Energy, Public Infrastructure and Logistics, PPP Projects.
Participants from various chambers of commerce, business support organizations, the academe, LGUs, members of inter-agency committees, NGOs, consumer organizations and the media are expected to attend the forum.
The nationwide roadshow being conducted by the BOI started in May and will be completed by last quarter of 2015. Six IPP fora were already conducted in the following cities: General Santos on May 22, Baguio on May 29, Dipolog on June 19, San Fernando on June 25, Cagayan de Oro on July 2 and Metro Manila on September 4. Other cities where it would be held include: Naga, Cebu, and Puerto Princesa.
