Leading the group are Jerry T. Clavesillas, Philippine delegation head for the APEC SMEWG and director of the Department of Trade and Industry’s Bureau of Small and Medium Enterprise Development, and John Andersen, APEC SMEWG chair and deputy assistant secretary for the Western Hemisphere of the U.S. Department of Commerce. The Philippines hosted this meeting which will run from September 23 to 24. This meeting will push interventions that APEC economies can implement for SMEs, particularly micro enterprises, for them to take part in global and regional trade through direct export of goods and integration in global value chains. The SME sector’s contribution to the region’s economic growth is crucial as it comprises 96 percent of all businesses, and provides most of the domestic employment in the region. (DTI-PRU)
