Building Inclusive Businesses. Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Assistant Secretary Rafaelita Aldaba joined government counterparts and members of the private sector in the Asia Pacific Region in learning more about inclusive business during the presentations of resource speakers at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Investments Experts’ Group (IEG) Public-Private Dialogue (PPD) on Inclusive Business (IB). The Dialogue, with the theme “Fostering SME Growth through Inclusive Business” (August 27, 2015 at Marco Polo Plaza Cebu Hotel, Cebu City, Philippines) aims to raise awareness through exchange of information and best practices on IB models in agribusiness, manufacturing and services. During the dialogue, the business community was urged to help the government achieve inclusive economic growth and to adapt business models that can significantly contribute to poverty alleviation. Philippine government officials led by Cabinet Secretary Jose Rene D. Almendras delivered the keynote address during the dialogue with DTI Undersecretary Zenaida Cuison-Maglaya welcoming participants to the forum. In the Philippines, the DTI through the Board of Investments has recently partnered with the Asian Development Bank to develop an inclusive business accreditation program. BOI hopes to further private and public sector partnerships to address social issues for the poor and vulnerable members of society by encouraging the private sector to support SME integration into the global economy by engaging them as a producer, employee, distributor or consumer of goods and services.
