OLONGAPO CITY, Zambales—The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA)  has released P14.7 million to the Aeta cultural minority as royalty for the operation of the free port zone inside their property, a senior official said on Friday.

SBMA chairman and administrator Roberto Garcia said the amount was the Aetas’ share from rentals paid by more than 1,500 locators operating within the former American naval base.

“We are proud that we are able to fulfill our commitment to the Aetas pursuant to our joint management agreement so that they could use the funds for their priority projects to improve their living conditions and uplift the status of their community,” Garcia said.
