PTIC Highlights ASEAN Franchise & Halal Opportunities in Franchise Asia Philippines 2015

The Philippine Trade & Investment Centre (PTIC) presented franchise and halal opportunities at the recent Franchise Asia Philippines Discovery Day Sessions held at the SMX Convention Center, Manila. The seminar on International Expansion Opportunities offered a platform for entrepreneurs to get updates on franchising in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates.

For ASEAN, Glenn Peñaranda, PTIC Commercial Counsellor for Singapore and Malaysia and ASEAN Team Leader shared that the ASEAN Economic Community offers many opportunities. “ASEAN is a dynamic market with a population of 625 million and increasing urbanization, income levels, regional integration, and foreign direct investments.” Reasons that franchising has become a successful business model in the region, specifically on the food sector. “As incomes rise and lifestyles evolve, consumption for food grows and diversifies”.

During his presentation, Commercial Counsellor Peñaranda emphasized what is important for Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore markets – food quality, safety and halal certification; scalability; quality, convenience, and customer service and pricing. Franchising in the food and beverage sector is booming but the services sector is under-tapped.

DTI, BOI strengthens regional capability for investors


As the Philippines continues to enjoy high investor confidence, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Board of Investments (BOI) continue to build sustainable groundwork to promote investments in the various regions of the country.

“In collaboration with DTI’s regional offices, we have stepped up our promotion efforts to drive economic activities nationwide, especially in investment ready areas,” DTI Undersecretary Ponciano C. Manalo, Jr. said.

The BOI through its Domestic Investments Promotion Service (DIPS) and the Investment Assistance Service (IAS) recently synchronized their respective programs to conduct the investment counseling and capability building training on investments promotion with focus on project plan preparation.

“With these efforts, we expect a more vibrant DTI and BOI presence in providing frontline services to investos in the regions,” Manalo said.

ASEAN Mag meeting by PTIC-London

Sec. Gregory L. Domingo meets with members of the TheCityUK ASEAN Market Advisory Group (MAG). The group is led by Mr. Sushil Saluja of Accenture. The newly formed ASEAN MAG briefed the Secretary about its priorities. It is the first of its kind to be established in the UK. The group is comprised of senior officials and experts within the financial and professional services industry of the UK. The aim of this group is to identify trade and investment opportunities and priorities for strategic business dialogue between the UK and the ASEAN region.

Undersecretary and PPP Center Exec. Dir. Cosette Canialo answers questions about the infrastructure programme of the Philippines. The Infrastructure Investment Opportunities in the Philippines held at Asia House last 19 June 2015 was attended by investors interested in participating in the infrastructure programme of the country. The panel included USec. Catherine Gonzales of DOTC, PPP Deputy Exec. Dir. Eleazar Ricote, James Kenny, Chair of Global Infrastructure of KPMG, Colin Clinton of Arup and Marcus Treacher of HSBC.
